Nalepa’s Pen: Become A Dominant Pitcher
Teaching the secrets of pitching is not just a mechanical approach. I tell everyone to visualize themselves as a car and they need to be able to hit different gears at the proper times. It’s my job to get them there. People teach just mechanics. I teach the different variables of pitching: the mental aspect, mechanical, flexibility, arm speed, and strength. I am going to tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.
To help our athletes get to the next level, I start by an evaluation process. I tell you your weaknesses and how to improve on it. I then take what you’re good at and help you improve it to be better. You must be able to repeat everything, the same way, every time, in order for you to be the most successful pitcher you can be. If you can’t, then you make your job more difficult. Which in turn, makes it harder for your team to win. My job is to get you to a level of consistency that will allow you to compete at a high level.
How Can ASW Help You Get to the Next Level?
When you practice with your high school team, that’s a team practice. Coaches are not going to develop the individual as he has the responsibility to develop the team. The only way you are going to be able to develop your skill set is by seeking someone or somewhere you can train for the next level. You have to find the experts that can help you progress. We are those experts!
We utilize state-of-the-art equipment to better develop players in each of the specific aspects of the game. My strengths come in the hitting department, where I am able to breakdown the step-by-step mechanics and fundamentals. My biggest weapon to impact my athletes is my behind the scenes work with college recruiting. There is a process that starts as early as your freshman year. It starts with your grades beginning and finishing strong. It is key to start strong because, in the game of recruiting, starting strong only allows it to be easier for you to finish strong by your senior year. I advise when and how to start testing, applying for financial aid, creating their recruiting videos, and contacting coaches that are in need of prospective athletes. I walk them through what is needed on a year-to-year basis. I have athletes start keying in on what they want to accomplish and what it will take to get there. It is critical finding where you are academically, and athletically, and then finding the right school that will fit.
